Contact Now| SUPRIYO BANERJEE Supriyo Banerjee is one of the fine young exponents of Senia-Maihar Gharana. Born in 1961 at Bally, West Bengal. He passed B.Com from Kolkata University. However, he was not to be a man of commerce. Destiny had other plans for him. The Goddess of Music – Saraswati was to decide his future not the Goddess of wealth – Lakshmi. His parents became his inspiration when supriyo opted for persuing music and completed his M.A. in Music from Rabindra Bharati University, West Bengal. Sarode became Supriyo’s instrument for musical expression. He learned it from Ustad Dhyanesh Khan – a son of Padmabibhushan Dr. Ali Akbar Khan and grandson of Ustad Allauddin Khan – Baba – the founder of Senia – Mahiar Gharana. Supriyo’s love for music ultimately brought him to the legendary master of Senia – Mahiar Gharana Padmabhushan Dr. Annapurna Devi the founder Baba’s daughter. He has been learning from her last Twenty years. Supriyo is a B-High grade artist of All India Radio. He performed in many prestigious concerts in India. Performed in the most prestigious concert like BABA ALLAUDDIN SANGEET SAMAROHO (Kolkata), concert at SWAMI -VIVEKANANDA’S ANCESTRAL House (Kolkata) etc. Supriyo’s music is characterized by serene exposition of a given Raga. His meditative Alaps, majestic Jods and mesmerizing Jhala are a treat to the discerning ears of the listeners. Supriyo is a musician you would want to hear again and again.
