KALPANA SETHI (Vocalist)
Born on the 27th day of August, Kalpana Sethi is a vocalist with an extra-ordinary mellifluous voice and an endearing aura of charm and elegance. A graceful, good-looking female with loads of emotions and innocence in her voice and nature is very close to her name (which means Imagination, the cause to creativity).
In her immaculate style she delivers music in the form of Indian classical Taranas, Taans and Trivats with Ghazals, Geets, Bhajans,Punjabi and Sufiana Qalaam. Her aesthetic sensibility towards, music and poetry makes her different from many of her contemporaries. In her performances she not only renders the poetry of very celebrated poets like Mirza Ghalib, Daag Dehlvi, Kabir, Bulleshah, Meera, Amir Khusrau, but also the contemporary poets like Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Rayees Rampuri, Zia Jullandhari and many more, enthralling and regaling the audiences and gaining their love and affection.
Her musical training had been under many eminent Gurus. With an intense inquisitiveness to learn new things she always wants to keep on learning and beautiful says in her shayraana andaaz,
“Talaash-o-talab mein who lazzat payee, Khuda kare ki manzil hi na aaye”.
Kalpana Sethi has performed in the major cities of the country and also in Mauritius and Nepal. Her performances have been telecasted on the major channels many times like Aaj Tak, NDTV, Total TV, Delhi Aaj Tak, Sahara Samay and have accorded her with accolades as an upcoming star of the Nation. Her performances have also been telecasted on the Mauritian TV channels like MBC1, MBC2. She was blessed by the renowned Bollywood music director Sh. Uttam Singh and Indian Classical Dance Maestro, Pandit Birju Maharaj for her performance. Her major performances include:
• At “Raashtriya Ekta Sammelan”,November, 1997 in Ramlila Maidan, Delhi.
• At Panchacharya’s Sammelan, Banaras in October 1998 .
• At “Ganga Dushehra Mahotsav”, Chandigarh in July 2000 .
• At Parliament Annexes in March 2001.
• At Ashoka Hotel, in the book release function of “Delhi-The Emperor’s City” written by Sh. Vijay Goel with the Ghazal Maestro, Sh. Satish Babbar ji on 30th September 2003.
• At IITF, Pragati Maidan and Delhi at Falaqnuma Hall on 16th November 2003 .
• Performed at Indian Islamic Cultural Center on 7th February 2004 in the programme “Sham-e-Ghazal” .
• On 19th March’ 05 at D.S. Kothari Hostel Lawn, Delhi University, Delhi in programme “GULSHAN 2005” organized by The Culture & D.S. Kothari Hostel.
• On 16th September,2005 at Aiwan-e-Ghalib,Delhi organized by Ghalib Institute,for Ghalib and Cultural Heritage of Delhi.
• On October 4, 2006 at Shankar All Hall,Modern School organized by SPIC MACAY.
• On 26th January,2007 in Kanbadi, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh in the Republic Day Celebrations.
