| D. Kartik Narayanan was born in the family of musicians, being the son of renowned percussionist Sh. T.R.Dhandapany. Kartik has been under the training of his father since the age of four. He has led a group of his father’s disciples for performing Talavadya programme at various occasions including the Jhankar Utsav, Tamil Sangam etc in the capital and the other parts of the country. He has been performing regularly in Talavadya programmes with his father. He has won numerous prizes in various national level competitions & from many cultural organizations since the age of five. He received a child prodigy award in 1994 from a famous weekly magazine “Ananda Vikhadan” when he was five years old. He was selected by the famous music critics Mr. Subudu for the above mentioned award locally. He is also a recipient of national level scholarship from CCRT under the CTS scheme. He is highly talented in mathematics of percussion instruments. He has been highly acclaimed due to his technical skills at such a young age. He is highly praised by critics and audiences alike. In 2003, He went to Europe along with his Father’s Group to perform at the inaugural function of the 5th Asia Pacific Week. He also performed at the other parts of Germany and Austria. In 2006, He performed at the Jazzmandu Festival in Nepal. He also performed at the opening ceremony of Garden of Dreams in Katmandu He also performed at the Rashtrapathi Bhawan in frount of the Then President of India, Hon’ble Shri. A.P.J. Abul Kalam. Recently, in the month of April 2010, he toured different parts in China along with his father to participate at the Festival of India in China. The tour was extremely successful and very well received by the critics alike. He has also accompanied many musicians like Sikkil Mala, Neyvely Santhanam, Sikkil Gurucharan etc Apart from music, he is very good in his academic career. He has completed B.Tech in Computer Science from IP University, New Delhi. Currently working in a Multi-National Company as a Software Engineer. |
