Subtlety, sensitivity, and harmony grace the performances of Sri Vittal Ramamurthy, a leading and popular violinist of the Carnatic stage today. After initial training with Sri Hosahalli Venkatram, and Smt. T. Rukmini, he went on to learn from the legend and violin maestro, Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman and blossomed into a versatile musician under his able tutelage.
Rich with creativity and innovation, Sri Ramamurthy's style is marked by "strong bowing, expressive musical ideas and flawless execution," (The Hindu).

Sri Vittal Ramamurthy is an "A" grade artiste of All India Radio, and has been extensively featured on national radio and television. He has performed in over 2000 concerts in 25 countries around the world. He has accompanied his gurus, Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, and Lalgudi GJR Krishnan; and eminent musicians like Balamuralikrishna, T. N. Seshagopalan, Flute N. Ramani, Kadri Gopalnath, and Chitravina N. Ravi Kiran. His accompanying style is to subtly blend with and complement the main performer in the best traditions of the Lalgudi style.

In his quest to spread the tradition of Carnatic music, Sri Ramamurthy teaches a number of disciples worldwide: Jazz musicians in Paris, students in India and the USA, and participants at
lecture-demonstrations. Many of his students are performing artistes of the violin, saxophone and veena. In his passion for music and selfless contribution to the growth of Carnatic music,
Sri. Vittal and his family organize music summer camps at his native home 'Karunbithil' in Nidle (near Dharmasthala, Karnataka) every year. Every year he invites more than 100 music students
in and around Mangalore, Shringeri, Dharmasthala and many other places of remote Karnataka and imparts them training. These students stay in his house and learn music for a whole week in
the style of the gurukulam system. In adddition to classes by Sri. Vittal, eminent musicians are invited to impart training by conducting workshops and lec-dems to these young and budding
students. Famed Artistes like Sri. Lalgudi Jayaraman, Sri. Neyveli R.Santhanagopalan, Sri.N.Vijaysiva, Sri. TM Krishna, Smt.Shankari Krishnan, Sri. Kamalakara Rao, Sri. HS Sudheendra, Sri. Mannarkoil Balaji have graced these Shibiras and contributed to the success. In recognition of all his services, he was aptly conferred with the well deserved "BEST TEACHER AWARD" from the VD Swami Arts Academy, Chennai in Dec 2008.
